Dracorhodin (CAS 643-56-1, C₁₇H₁₄O₃, MW 266.29 g/mol) is a phenolic compound and the major pigment of Dragon's blood resin, obtained from Daemonorops draco (Arecaceae). The compound is a 5-methoxy-6-methyl-2-phenyl-7H-1-benzopyran-7-one with a characteristic red color. Dragon's blood resin has been used in traditional medicine across multiple cultures; dracorhodin is the primary bioactive constituent responsible for its antioxidant and cytotoxic properties. The purified compound has been evaluated in DPPH radical scavenging, CUPRAC, and FRAP assays, and shows concentration-dependent cytotoxicity in cell culture studies.
